Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras gives us the definitive description of yoga. It offers the student of yoga a precise inner mapping of the essentials for strengthening awareness and being free from self-imposed obstacles. The Yoga Sutras offer a crystal clear model of living consciously.
The ancient sounds of the Sanskrit language, when chanted, open the individual to higher levels of awareness and connection to the Self. Chanting Sanskrit yogic texts with awareness, creates a richness unavailable to the practitioner reading translated works of yoga philosophy.
In this study group we will journey into the ancient teachings of Patanjali through the resonant sounds of chanting the Yoga Sutras. As we engage each sutra, we will uncover the depth of meaning through understanding the grammatical significance of each word.
This course of study will include chanting of all 4 chapters as we study specific sutras that outline the Sanyama meditation practice in depth. Sanyama is the pathway Patanjali features most prominently in the Yoga Sutras as preparation for the final phase of Ishvara-pranidhana. Sanyama meditation practice will be taught as an integral part of this study group.
The study group is designed to provide a solid grounding in direct knowledge of the Yoga Sutras. You will experience the precise and reliable information found in the Yoga Sutras as a direct means to access subtler states of consciousness through chanting, studying the grammar of select sutras, and the Sanyama meditation practice.
